Project Title: Life Science by Eran Gilat
Project Summary: “Life Science” Photography Project reflects my visual contemplations as a Scientist and Photographer on Physiological studies, my continues exposure to various biological tissues and specimens and the art world in general.
Statement: As a scientist, this is an attempt of mine to make a photographic statement about my individual experience in life science research and to visually resolve certain contemplation of mine regarding ongoing exposure to various biological tissues and specimens. The project I believe is inspired by my long lasting scientific confrontation with various biological specimens, while engaged in physiological studies. It is not intended to be a detailed scientific report; it is my personal view and thoughts on certain aspects of life science, scientific activity, and aesthetics in general.
In "Life Science" I wish to offer an artistic expression that brings together observation on science, research methodology with an emphasize on preparation hierarchy and aesthetics.
It takes a while for a young clinician or a student to accommodate the laboratory scenes to enable good performance. This is done by extensive training; some cannot adjust to the visuals. I feel my photographic activity carries me to these regions too. I believe I am dealing with the aesthetics of the scene, improvising various contexts, the tools and paraphernalia are not just the typical ones used in the operating place. "Life Science” is forcing the biological tissue into relatively pleasant, sometimes artificial scenarios.
# The source of all specimens are meat markets or natural history facilities.
